Business Suits for her Q. I am in a woman in law school and I am just beginning to buy suits for interviews, etc. I have never worked or worn suits before so I feel a bit lost. From what I understand, (in the legal world) the only acceptable colors are blue, black, and dark grey. What are the best suit brands in terms of "conservativeness" and durability (i.e., not too trendy)? I bought 2 Tahari suits already, which I like. Also, what color shoes do you recommend with a blue suit? Black? (I refuse to buy blue shoes as I think that looks ridiculous.)
A. Tahari is a good start. You might even check out coordinates that work as suits, from Ellen Tracy, Dana Buchman, Jones New York or Anne Klein. Kasper makes a more moderately priced suit as well. Probably the best resource for suits is Lord and Taylor, if you have a store nearby. Also don't forget store brands like Talbots or Brooks Brothers.
Black shoes with navy is preferable (and dressier).
