What type of men's skirts I'd like to see
Any that look in the context of a man. All my skirts and dresses tend to be black, dark blue or denim coloured. You won't find a floral number on me, but I float up to the shops in light denim dress.
What type of challenges I've faced wearing skirts
Nothing major. Sometimes school girlies giggle, but they'll get over it. Practically, one want's to have them below the knee for modesty's sake. Longer in winter, shorter in Summer. Perfect.
Why I wear like to wear skirts
All of the above, but just the most comfortable human covering. Especially dresses. No restriction at the waist. I also think they look a heap better than the usual ridiculous shorts you see everywhere.
I notice the Macabe skirts (male and female) are in great demand for trekking the world. Certainly a huge advance on the absolutely ludicrous shorts on the average tourist. Especially the fabled American ones!
How I got started wearing skirts
While traveling in tropical countries in the late '60s I got into wearing sarongs, and also while working in Australia, where it is very hot in more northerly parts. So when I got back here I kept wearing lava-lavas (sarongs) which were not at all common in the '70s here.
But I have kept enjoying them and more recently lava-lavas have been seen around a heap more.
For myself I never considered lava-lavas to be suitable street wear, here in Auckland and always traveled and trucked around in my jeans.
However, here I am with a "Burb" or two mucking abut on the computer in my lava-lava and think: "Surely I cannot be the only male in the world on a computer in other than a pair of pants."
So I Googled "Men in skirts" and Skirtcafe.org seemed to be the most active at the time so I thought: Let's get rid of pants altogether. My trusty Levi 520s had thrashed out between the legs, and an excellent denim skirt was half the price! I haven't looked back.
Tips and Tricks
- I guess always look the part and never self-conscious. Never "notice" any immature laughter or other derision.
- Can't say there has ever been any big adverse reaction in these parts. In other parts I think one of those Macabe ones would be pretty safe.
