It's time for a tall woman powwow. I rounded up a number of tall women to get their input on the fashion items they couldn't live without while commiserating over some of the difficulties that tall women face when trying to find clothes. This is what they had to say:
Tara Geissinger, 6'1"
I am 37 years old and 6'1" tall. Finding tall clothes wouldn't be that much of a problem if I wasn't pretty much all legs! My favorite stables for pants are Gap and Old Navy. They both carry XLT sizes online that come in a 36" inseam. Yay! What I like best about them is the fact that they are priced well - which means that I can buy more of a variety and have some fun with pants in different styles and colors. I also like that if something doesn't fit, I can simply return it to my local retailer. This saves me time and money on trying to ship something back. My favorite pants include Gap's The Perfect Trouser and Old Navy's The Dreamer Boot-Cut Jeans.
Lisa-Joy Zgorski, 5'9"
High heels make a tall woman unapologetic, more elegant and sophisticated. I like the slingbacks that elongate the leg. If you've got it, flaunt it!
Kristin Sundberg, 5'10"
I am a 5'10", 27 year-old publicist who has definitely had my fair share of struggles with clothes, especially as a teenager. The introduction of premium denim and high-fashion denim brands particularly helped me with my pants crisis. I find that the premium denim lines run long, allowing shorter folks to get them tailored as needed. Also in recent years, brands like Gap, Banana Republic and Ann Taylor have started creating pants you can buy in waist and length sizes.
Even though I am tall, I still usually pair my well-fitting jeans with a great pump, a semi-flowy top and a cropped jacket. To me, this is when I look the most proportionate and also my best!
Kim Hiltachk, 5'9-1/2"
I am 5'9-1/2" and I always have trouble finding shirts that don't look like "crop tops" skimming the waistband of my pants. I love Tank Essential. It is an online store that manufactures and sells custom fit tanks and camis. You can select the length of the top, strap size and support. They make wide strap tanks that I wear on their own, as well as the spaghetti strap camis we all wear under shirts or jackets. They're super high-quality. I have several that I've washed more than 10 times that have never shrunk. Honestly, I own eight or 10 of these in varying styles and I wear them all the time. They also offer free shipping and the price is great! Love them!
Jennifer Mills
I am a tall girl, mostly legs with a 35" inseam, so pants can be an issue. Jeans I can usually find, but dress pants or any pants that are trendy are much harder to find. However, I found and fell in love with Vince leggings. They're a bit of a splurge, but I they're plenty long enough, flattering to every figure and can easily be dressed up or down. They're definitely my must-have!
Valerie Breslow, 5'11-1/2"
I'm a runner, 5'11-1/2. I've had the best luck for winter running pants from the Mizuno Breath-Thermo line offered at better running stores. There are also Champion brand pants that almost look like yoga pants but they have a nice thick fabric. I buy those at Target. For long sleeve shirts I like Mizuno and Brooks Running.
Anna Eytchison, 6'2"
I'm 6'2" and played volleyball at a Division 1 program - a girl on my team introduced me to Lululemon athletic pants and I fell in love. Their classic/basic pants come in Tall, and they also do complimentary hemming if they're too long. I also have a couple pairs of their pants that aren't "tall" and they fit great as well. Although prices are on the higher side, Lululemon has great customer services and the pants don't fade or shrink. Definitely worth the money!
Laura Williams, 6'0"
(Yep, that's me!) I know you get to see me wax poetic about my favorite brands and styles on a regular basis, but a few of my recent "must-haves" include Height Goddess skinny jeans (blissfully long!), Jo & Jax J-slim workout pants (36" inseam!) and Fair Verona lingerie (rompers w/ enough torso length!).
