A Typical Day

I start work before I get to the office - basically watching breakfast TV news, listening to the radio and reading mags and papers on the way in scouring for news leads and inspiration. Then I get in a deal with admin - opening post, replying to emails. I get about 30 emails a day and after filtering out the spam it usually takes me half an hour to deal with them.

Then (after a coffee) it's liaison with writers. We have a news team who on fuk who gather stories and take digital pictures at events. Sometimes they will have been to 3 different events the night before so we discuss pictures and stories.

After I am satisfied that we all know what we're doing for the day's stories, I might write a feature or edit one written by someone else and then as the day progresses I edit news stories as they are written. It's a real team effort here and despite the pressure (we publish 5 news stories a day on fuk and 5 others on a UK lifestyle and shopping site) we all have a fantastic time doing the work.

This afternoon not untypically, I will be going to see a press open day, checking out new ranges and new designers. We are constantly sourcing new designers and ranges and trends to write about and we also have a shop within fuk so part of my day involves liaising with Karn, who is effectively our shopkeeper, and also looking at what's new.

Most days there is some work out of the office, if not a press open day, then an exhibition, fashion show, interview with a designer. Later in the afternoon the pressure is on to get the site updated as much as possible before the close of play.

The Best Part of the Job

Meeting and helping new and struggling designers get their 'message' and their work out to a wide audience. There is SO much talent in the UK. Seeing how the fuk online community has developed - especially through our message board.

The Most Difficult Part of the Job

Juggling, trying to do everything really well but not always being able to do as much as I would like.

Work and Educational Background

Degree in Philosophy Politics and Economics and working as a journalist on print titles and television.

More Thoughts You can't stand still for a minute because the web is constantly changing and you have to evolve with your audience. -Marian Buckley, Editor of Fashion UK, a Webby-award nominated site for Best Fashion Site.
