Hair feathers are a hot new trend and fun way to add some excitement to your hair.

There's a wide variety of styles and colors, from skinny rooster feathers that you attach as extensions to larger feathers worn Native American-style behind the ear.

Where to Get Hair Feathers
One of the easiest ways to try this trend is to find a salon to put the feathers in for you. According to the New York Times, you can put get hair feather extensions in New York from top-notch salons like Three Squares Studio and Sally Hershberger.

You can also buy them online at stores like Fine Feather Heads or Etsy and put them in yourself (here's a how-to video on DIY hair feather extensions. Some feathers also come with small clamps or clasps so that you can just stick them right in your hair.

Cost
The cost of hair feathers varies, but can cost up to $75 for having them put in at salons; DIYers can buy hair feathers for as little as $20 on Etsy and install them yourself.

Styles of Hair Feathers
Although brightly colored slim feathers (as seen on Miley Cyrus and Jennifer Love Hewitt) are trendy, larger-style feathers worn tucked behind the ear are also an option. The long, slim rooster feathers come in dyed colors from brights to neutrals and can be worn individually for a subtle look, grouped together or spaced throughout your hair.
