It provides reliable components in electronics and can treat rheumatoid
arthritis.
It shielded astronauts' eyes from a glaring sun during the Apollo 11 moon landing and it's even spawned several mining "rushes" that caused otherwise reasonable citizens to chuck it all in search of this precious metal.
After a decade of cool metal popularity, such as platinum and silver, gold is back in vogue. Not just subtle, understated gold, but the kind of flashy pieces that were only recently relegated to smoky casinos in Las Vegas.
Gold is making a huge fashion comeback in makeup, jewelry, and especially, apparel. It's popping up as gilded leather, sequins, lame, mesh, brocade, knits, lace and liquidy satins.

| Gold Do's and Don'ts -Don't wear gold head-to-toe. -Do mix gold pieces with neutrals like black or white for maximum impact. -Don't wear gold on a body part that you don't want to emphasize (gold brings lots of attention) -Do alter your makeup to go with burnished hues. -Do get in on the gold rush by trying small impact pieces -- a shell, a small evening bag, a scarf -- before taking the plunge with bigger pieces like gold pants or jackets. -Don't miss wearing gold for daytime, mixing it with dark denim, leather and other fabrics. |
Gold for the home, from Glenna
Morton, About Interior Decorating
"The love of luxury has been growing over the last decade, and with it the
desire for all things "golden". Why do we love it? It sparkles, it shines, it
brightens, and best of all it looks good in combination with nearly every color scheme
imaginable. Metallic fabrics, particularly sheers, have shown up in everything from
placemats and curtains to custom bedskirts dripping with hand sewn beading and crystals.
Even bathroom fixtures have gone luxe with upscale gold toned selections in sinks,
faucets, and other hardware. Interest in gold leafing is also high, as homeowners add
shiny gilt touches to powder room ceilings, wood furniture, picture frames, and seasonal
table decorations -- all fairly easy projects to tackle. And while some of us may profess
to prefer silver, pewter, or platinum, gold is classic, lasting, and always in
style."
Gold in makeup from Shirley Bragg, About Beauty
"Just when you think that there is nothing new or exciting in the
world of eye shadows, something new hits the market and just in time for Christmas
too! Here's the latest... special pigments in eye shadows that change color from one
second to the next. Prescriptives Rainbow Powder Play is pink at first glance and then
gold the next. Givenchy Stick Etincelat Iridescent Reflective Eyeshadow performs the same
kind of trick... sheer lavender to bluish gray glaze. Urban Decay Shadow in Lounge is
offering a similar product so you can be sure that in the next few months... you are going
to have a wide range to choose from."
The meaning of Gold from Barbara
Bianco, About New Age
"In the outer world gold has always been a symbol for prosperity and wealth. It
is also a symbol for spiritual richness. Astrologically gold is the color of the sun, our
great benefactor. Alchemically dull lead is transmuted into gleaming gold. A golden glow
in the aura indicates enlightenment. A heart of gold is a treasure beyond compare."
