America Under Attack
New York
September 12, 2001
The heroes
Hundreds gathered along the West Side Highway to cheer the
buses and cars of rescue workers that entered and left the disaster site left by the
collapse of the World Trade Center. Except for the sporadic clapping, the diverse crowd
was reverently silent.
Dump trucks and bulldozers also came continuously in and out as rescuers sorted throughout the rubble and began to cart off debris.
