Little luxuries for fall
dateline 08.27.99
Despite most of what you read, it is entirely possible to be perfectly appropriate and fashionable this fall if you're not draped in head-to-toe cashmere or crammed into designer glam-rock duds.
The phraselittle luxuries was actually coined to describe a generation that would rather splurge on pricey coffee than commit to high ticket buys like a house. Small indulgences make more sense than big splurges because they can still pamper the senses without breaking the bank.
This fall, we have a wide range of little luxuries to delight the senses (soft-touch makeup brushes and pashmina scarf), comfort the soul (homespun wool caps and power beads), and tickle your fancy (maribou trimmed purse). Here's a look at five favorites:
1. Who's the Fairest? Itty Bitty
Makeup brushes. $70
Set of six adorable, small teak handled makeup brushes.
| Pamper Me, Cheaply -Buy the best lipick. $20+ lipstick just feels richer! -New perfume, in a small bottle will only set you back about $50 -- but makes you feel like a new woman. -Manicure, pedicure. -If you have to have the hottest handbag label (but don't have the cash) opt for a makeup bag instead. -New hair color or cut. |
2.
Stella Pace Powerbeads, from Girlshop.
Stella uses tigerseye (courage), rose quartz (love), amethyst (intelligence) in bracelets
($22) and chokers ($45) to make healing jewelry as chic as it is soothing.
3. Handmade, homespun wool hat from Stonebrook, $25-$50
Each one is different (some have cuffs, some have rounded crowns) They are natural
colored, no-dye from the Stonebrook sheep farm in Maine.
4. Pashmina scarf from Cashmere
Company, $69
If a shawl is out of your price range, opt for the luxury of a scarf. Lots of luscious
colors like deep orange, claret and lilac to spark up fall and winter neutrals.
5. Frou-frou
purse, from Holly Go-Lightly, $80
Black wool boucle and marabou trim are sure to lift your spirits anyday.
