Casey (TeenScene) and Cynthia (About Fashion Guide) team up to give Kate a cool new look.
Name: Kate
Age: 13
Makeover goal: A trendier casual look
Get the look
We decided to stay with Kate's faves (Ts and jeans) instead of making a drastic
style change.
By adding updated pieces and a few fun touches we managed to pull off the entire look (including makeup and accessories) for just a bit above $100.
The cropped jeans we chose look like they're vintage, but are actually brand new (Wet Seal, $49). They have lots of details -- an unravelled hem and lots of fading -- so we made them the focal point of Kate's new look.
To avoid competing with her groovy jeans, we chose a simple white tank top (Nordstrom, $12) and glammed up the look by adding a red web belt (Levis, $24) with a crystal pave buckle.
To top off this red, white and blue theme, we added flip flops from "Old Navy" for $4. The only accessory we thought she needed other than the belt is a single jeweled crystal star on her shoulder (from The Icing).
Find out what we ruled out and why as we worked to perfect Kate's new look.
Reason we like this look
We admit Kate was easy makeover material: she's naturally adorable and looks great
in just about anything. But we also think this lighthearted look really plays up Kate's
sunny smile.
Or as Casey says: "I loved Kate's new look because it was a simple mix of many trends - funky denim, the white tank, rhinestone belt, crystal tattoo and the new Americana look."
