- Never buy something just for the sake of a sale. Just as with full-price items, if you don't love it, don't buy it.
- Avoid the "I'll buy something to go with it" route when it comes to sales; that would defeat the point of the bargain! A good rule of thumb: if you can't think of three things to pair it with, forget about it.
- Keep in mind that you can make alterations. Love the jacket, but hate the buttons? Perk it up with new, funky toppers. Do the pants fit great, but are a tad on the short side? Hem them into sleek cropped pants.
- Be open-minded about fit. There's a chance that the reason it's on sale in the first place is because of irregular sizing, so don't be afraid to go up or down a size. But remember: if it doesn't fit perfectly, don't buy it!
- Trendy items are risky to buy during end-of-season sales because of such a short "must-have" existence, so snap them up at early-season sales, and stick to basics at the end of the season clearance.
