America Under Attack
New York
September 11, 2001
I came to New York to shoot Fashion Week, and instead left with images of tragedy and heroism.
Many About Guides have thoroughly covered the disaster ( "America Under Attack"), but I'd like to share what New York looked like immediately following the attack on the World Trade Center. (Left: The second tower as it begins to fall around 10:30 AM on September 11, 2001).
God bless America,

Below: The second tower of the World Trade Center as seen from midtown Manhattan at
10:29 a.m. Note: The times indicated are from time-stamps on the digital photos and
synchronized with a picture taken of a nearby public clock. They may not match up with
official records of when the attack/collapse occurred.
Below: Workers in buildings along Avenue of the Americas streamed from their buildings
after the attack. The second tower is still standing and burning in the background.
Below: At 10:30 AM, as the second building falls.
Below: The flag was still there, but the building was gone just a few minutes later.
Below: Stunned citizens gather around car radios, televisions in stores and hand held
radios to hear reports on 7th Avenue immediately after the attack.
Below: The enormity of what they had just witnessed overwhelmed many people on the
streets.
