Fashion mags? Can't get enough of 'em! I'm sharing my fave reads, so check out how I rated each one (5 stars being the best) and then click over to Fashion Fix to find out how to maximize your style by using what's in them.
Seventeen ***1/2
Beauty - Great makeup brands and beauty articles. "Shopping For..." features different products each month and compares price, quality and the like. "The Buzz" has cute little tips and hot new products. Find out what makeup your fave star uses in "In Her Bag."
Fashion Layouts - Although a wide range of prices, the clothes can be a little too trendy for everyday wear (example: white eyelet ankle-length, three-tiered skirt), but if you really look you can find major scores, especially in "Plenty Under 20."
Fashion Advice - Get inspired by the current trends and the street styles in the "Scoop."
Celebrity Style - "Star Style" is one of the best sections in the whole mag. It features trendy celebrities like Pink, Gwyneth, or Milla and tells where to find similar pieces from their wardrobe.
Overall - Nice for celebrity gossip and the latest dirt, but when it comes to fashion, you'd be better off with something else.
Teen Vogue - *****
Beauty - Neat celeb-focused beauty articles, found in no other mag! Awesome "10 Most Wanted" has divine, right-off-the-market makeup.
Fashion Layouts - Fabulous labels and realistic trends that would fit into any wardrobe, while still being trendy and fresh. They must have genius stylists to come up with the chic ensembles!
Fashion Advice - Wonderfully informative articles about trends, shopping, celebrity fashion, and style, in general. Very hip writing. Be sure to check out the shopping directory in the back for the latest shopping sites and stores.
Celebrity Style - Stylish celebs appear in fashion-focused articles, trendy layouts, and -- my personal favorite -- "Talking Fashion." Kate Hudson, Jen Love, and Paris Hilton, among many other It Girls shown at the latest premiere, fancy gala, or hip club in designer duds like Dolce & Gabbana and Chloe, as well as mall finds like Gap, Bebe, and J. Crew!
Overall - I simply adore this divine style guidebook.
YM ****
Beauty - Cool "Make Me Over" could come in very handy when you need a bit of a new look. See what your fave celeb glam-ifies herself with in "Who Uses What." In the cute "Stuff We Like," be sure to check what their staff is crazy for in "We're Obsessed."
Fashion Layouts - Reasonable and fashionable clothing from cool labels. Very Stylish.
Fashion Advice - Neat "Denim Fix" features the latest denim duds with cool and funky details. "Shops" is my favorite. It includes the latest and greatest mall stores and the products they sell at a glance.
Celebrity Style - Although this is a cool mag, there are no celebrity fashion features.
Overall - Nice style section, as well as other teen features. If you're looking for a real fashion mag though, pick something else.
Teen Style ****1/2
Beauty- Super helpful "Beauty School" gives how-to instructions on must-know topics, like sunless tanning!
Fashion Layouts - Fabulous clothing and designers. An eclectic mix of mall and designer threads like Polo, Lilly Pulitzer, American Eagle Outfitters and Built By Wendy.
Fashion Advice - Wonderful articles about celebs with impeccable style. Rather smart and well written too.
Celebrity Style - "Star Style" shows celebrities in hip trends straight from the red carpet. "Hollywood Closeup" has the latest celeb fashion scoop. And don't miss the absolutely fab fashion articles about the latest Miss Thang.
Overall - I love this magazine because it's a great shopping guide, but I can't see paying seven bucks an ish.
Casey is a real, fashion-forward teenage girl who loves clothes (and describes her own look as "trendy prep") If you want to ask her a question, post it to the Fashion Forum under "Teen" and put "Ask Casey" in the Subject line.
