Casey's Fashion Fix: How to make the most of
fashion magazines
Back to
Teen Scene May 2001
You religiously buy Seventeen, Teen People, you name it. But then, after you
read it, what do you do with it? Throw it away? Toss it under your bed? Here are some
ideas of how to use those mags as a "style tool."
1) If you find pictures of your favorite celebs' inspiring designer threads, cut 'em out
and make a collage on poster board. Don't forget to make it pretty with ribbon, glitter,
sequins, and rhinestones! Top it off with a funky frame.
2) Use Post It notes to mark all of the fashion layouts you love. Grab some of your favorite catalogs (Delias, Alloy, and Brat all are cool) and do your own little runway-to-reality and order your ensembles ASAP!
3) In a notebook, write down all of the cool fashion and shopping sites from mags - I've found some divine ones from InStyle. On a lazy summer day, go to as many as you can!
4) Mark all of the most inspiring celebrity and fashion articles to keep for future reference. Anytime you need a quick style solution, refer to those articles.
5) Tear out fabulous advertisements of top-notch designers or cool little fashion features and tape them all around your closet for a cool inspiring look.
6) Keep those mags in perfect condition and one day they'll be worth something. Plus, when you don't have anything to do, you can re-read those magazines and laugh about the former trends.
Casey is a real, fashion-forward teenage girl who loves clothes (and describes her own look as "trendy prep") If you want to ask her a question, post it to the Fashion Forum under "Teen" and put "Ask Casey" in the Subject line.
