I have developed a serious crush on over-the-knee boots for fall. It's something I don't own, and I'm shopping for an amazing pair, like these suede wedges from Stuart Weitzman (Buy Direct). The only thing....I wonder if maybe, at 40-something, I'm too old to wear them. Thoughts? (Photo Credit: Shopbop.com)

pirates are the only ones who should ever ever wear over the knee boots. oh, and julia roberts in pretty woman.
I think it depends on how you wear them .. if the rest of your outfit says I am trying to look 20 something then you will look ridiculous. If you pair them with something more age appropriate I think it could be OK
As a generality, society seems to have a problem with women over a certain age wearing revealing or seductive clothing. I just think it depends on what you wear and how you wear it.
Wear whatever you want and wear it with confidence!
I agree with Shauna and Best of Beehive. You can wear over-the-knee boots at age 40. I reside in the Midwest where OTK boots keep the snow off of me! Wear them Cynt!
I love my thigh high boots and I’ll be 47 in October! However, so many people have told me over and over throughout the years that I look so much younger than my actual age, and I know it’s true, the mirror doesn’t lie! I’m not
trying to toot any horns here really. I’m just being real. I don’t
dress like a slut, or a show off. However, I know I don’t dress
my age, but I dress classy and a bit sexy. Oh btw, this is not spam at all, but I got my thigh high boots at Snaz75.com, a place that just sells all kinds of shoes and sandals and boots, etc..
My concern is what do you wear with the OTK boots if your over 40? The younger girls wear short, short skirts….is that ok to wear at age 40 plus?
Can’t agree more with Best of Beehive, Shauna and Suzy. Rock those OTK boots! Keep the overall look age-appropriate and you’ll be just fine. Shameless plug, but it’s very appropriate to this subject. I recently did a video on this very subject. , , ,
It depends on your legs. I have muscle legs and Iīm short, so no matter my age, these boot donīt suit me.
The age is in the mind or a paper , your spirit always is young.
If you want to wear, wear always you want, the world no matter, only your happiness.
I hope you understand my words. I donīt speak english.
It’s not the age of the wearer that matters, but does the style suit their build, and the rest of their outfit?
Wear what you want in good taste of course .Let’s jump on the morons who age discriminate for jobs…
Let’s see . . . over the knee boots cover more “skin” than any of the shorter boots so I don’t understand why age appropriate even comes into question. In fact I guess I’m getting a little cranky with “am I too old to wear this” thing. We ALL have to wear clothes no matter what our age and we DON’T have to look frumpy because we’re getting older. If it looks good, it’s appropriate for the occasion/weather (not AGE)and you love it then WEAR IT! I wear my boots under skirts so unless I wear a shorter skirt no one will know if they are over the knee or not. Even if you wear a short skirt (probably with leggings since I’m going to guess this is for colder weather) you’re still totally covered so what could possibly be inappropriate about them??? . . . . Unless you’re going to wear them with a Wonder Woman suit or something.
You can wear over the knee boots or thigh high boots as you wish. We ladies have that choice. However, if you are somewhat “embarrased” or “self concious” then you could wear a longer skirt/maxi dress to hide the tops. Works great for this over 50 year old. Fashion is meant to have fun with.
I think in fashion, it depends on if the wearer is able to carry off the look. Age ≠ Style. It does not mean that a 20 year old could carry off all looks. I am 40 and have a 13 year old son but have always been told (even by strangers) that I don’t look my age. Personally, I would wear over-the-knee boots under a long denim skirt.
You should not wear it every time you get the chance to. It is for selected occasions.
At sixty years, I love to wear my up-to-ten-inch over the knee, gently fitted, soft leather, one-inch-heel, tapered-toe black boots with dresses of all lengths and narrow trousers tucked-in. I enjoy the sensual pleasure of the look and feel, as they wear like luxurious thigh-high slippers.
You’re never too old for boots. They have long been here, they still rock the fashion world. I’m still looking for some ankle black boots, I never seem to get enough of these boots.
I never think anyone is too old for over-the-knee boots. These boots will always be fashionable for everyone. If it’s possible to find over-the-knee boots without a heel, I would definitely go with those for your age. However, if you really love the heel, I say go for it! The best way to make a person not look like some prostitute or whatever is the to go softer colors or even black, but not shiny. Leather is always the best because it will last forever. Also do not wear them with only a short skirt or dress. Try wearing then with a pair of tights and a dress or skirt. I hope this helps, I cannot wait to wear my over-the-knee boots!
As a 52 year old, I think a flat suede over the knee works if you wear a somewhat classic look from the knee up.
Over the knee boots for women in their 40s, 50s, and beyond look great with narrow pants and the cascading cardigans that are in style now. Wear with a wide belt and some cool earrings. This look strikes me as a casual weekend look. I would stick with a lower heel, but not too low! By the way, I think being too embarrassed to wear the boots so you see the tops COMPLETELY DEFEATS THE PURPOSE of wearing these boots. If you’re going to hide the look, why wear them at all?
There is no age limit. I have seen women in their 50′s who keep in great shape and can wear anything. I have several pairs and my husband drools every time I wear them. If he still finds me sexy when I am wearing them that’s all that counts.
I/we used to ride motorcycles. Even though we no longer do I still carry that sexy biker chick look pretty well. Both he and I are still very happy and that makes for a wonderful life.
As long as you look hot and feel great about your self….. you should wear the boots as high as you want them. As soon as you feel ridiculous or that someone may judge you then that’s when you don’t wear them. I believe you really want them and I can see you rocking those boots. Go for it! just feel great wearing them and it will show!
you only live once, enjoy life. enjoy your boots , dont worry what anyone else thinks.
dont worry about what anyone has to say, get yourboots, enjoy them… we only live once, life is too short, so enjoy
Wоah! Ӏ’m really digging the template/theme of this blog. It’s simplе, yet effective.

I agree with Shawna. If you love them, wear them! Also, as a guy who thinks boots are incredibly sexy, here’s one of my favorite ways to see thigh highs: with a mid-calf skirt that is slit to just above the knee in back! Wow!
First off I would like to say great blog! I had a quick question which
I’d like to ask if you don’t mind. I was interested to know how
you center yourself and clear your thoughts before writing.
I’ve had a difficult time clearing my thoughts in getting my thoughts out. I do enjoy writing but it just seems like the first 10 to 15 minutes are lost simply just trying to figure out how to begin. Any recommendations or hints? Kudos!
