Fashion Week, Day 3: Pretty Is As Pretty Does
Sunday started off with fellow Texan Lela Rose's show in the morning. More and more, I find that I watch fashion shows with a little Tim Gunn voice in my head. When Lela sent out skirts with strange continuous pockets along the hem, all I could think was "This concerns me." I need to take it easy watching Project Runway. But the next show, Tracy Reese, was just so, pretty. It had a natural/garden theme and the soft swirling chiffons in watercolor pastels looked amazing. Tracy sent out look after wearable look and everyone was chattering on the way out of the show about how much they loved it.
I found another reason to love Tracy Reese's pretty side, because I found out she had allowed a group of teens to intern backstage with her. It's just by chance that I even found out about it -- it wasn't sent out in a self-congratulatory press release -- but because I was talking with a young man in the lobby of the tents and he told me about this organization. The group, Visions of La Moda, from San Francisco, is a non-profit "Fashion Studio" for urban youth to teach them about fashion. The group's leader, Traci Peace, arranged the gig with Tracy Reese (and amazingly wrangled a field trip with Marc Jacobs himself.) (Photo Credit: Scott Gries/Getty Images)
