Fashion Week, Day 2: BFFs On Fashion
Sunday September 7, 2008
Although it's fun to get caught up in the fantasy of Fashion Week (where it's possible to believe 5-inch heels and peg-leg pants would work for everyone), I try to always remember what real women, like us, will wear. That's where my 2 best friends -- who tagged along (sans kids and hubbies) -- to New York come in. "Empire waists are over," declared my one friend. "They make you look pregnant." "Make them stop doing those baggy tent clothes," said the other. Both sniff at the thought that they care about trends, but the do want to be able to find pretty, wearable, affordable clothes. Don't we all?Lacoste -- a familiar name to anyone who's ever dipped a toe in the preppy or sporty side of fashion -- showed 3 distinct lines at the show yesterday: a neutrally colored, relaxed-shape group of chiffon and linen separates, a sorbet-colored sporty chic line (I really loved the bodysuits) and a younger lined filled with punchy graphic prints. It's all wearable (except the long full, dirndlish skirts) so that should keep the BFFs happy for now. (Scott Gries/Getty Images)
