Sarah Jessica Parker's (Not-So-Exclusive) Dress
It was the dress seen around the world during Sarah Jessica Parker's pink carpet walk for the New York premiere of Sex and the City: The Movie. Just one little problem: the strapless Nina Ricci, had already been worn before. Cathy Horyn, on her New York Times blog, broke the story of how the dress had been worn earlier in May by socialite Lauren Santo Domingo to the Met ball (see picture, right, with Nina Ricci designer Olivier Theyskens.)
This isn't the first time a designer duped a celeb into thinking she would be the first to wear a design. Back in '06 Reese Witherspoon touted her "vintage" Chanel dress, only to find out later that Kirsten Dunst had worn it 3 years earlier.
According to Horyn's blog, Parker had been told the dress hadn't been worn. What do you think? Is it OK for fashion houses to conduct business this way? Cast your vote.(Photo Credit: Both, Stephen Lovekin/Getty Images)
Poll:Was it ethical for Nina Ricci to let Sarah Jessica Parker think she was the first to wear this dress?

While I don’t have a problem with designer clothes being worn twice, a lie is a lie. They shouldn’t have let SJP think that it had never been worn before. I’ll bet she’s quite embarrassed. Some people will do anything for a buck. You would think the designers wouldn’t need to go to such lengths to make money. Perhaps it was a scandal they were looking for?
I don’t think it was ethical for the designer to lie about the dress never being worn before. The only good news is the designer is now known as a lier and other stars will not be so quick to choose her designs and believe they are exclusive.
