Fashion Week, Day 3: Rarest of All Birds, the Fashion Celebrity

Monday February 4, 2008
tracy reeseIs it the B-list celebrities that cause a stir at the shows? Not for the true fashion flock. You see, fashion has its own celebrities. They are the front-row fixtures that are stylists, journalists, magazine editors and well, honestly, we're not sure what some of them do but they are there and dressed to thrill.

I stood in line beside fashion celebs Lauren Ezersky and Patrick McDonald today for the Tracy Reese show (which was very pretty, with its released pleat skirts, and azaleas and greens.) Lauren has striking gray hair and dresses exactly like I would want to -- with her edgy black clothes and big diamonds -- if I didn't think it would scare the kids.

The etiquette for fashion celebs is much like any other celebrity: it is not cool to talk to them, but it's perfectly OK to eavesdrop and bask in their fabulous dressedness.

Of course, I broke this rule when I left the tents right behind Cathy Horyn, fashion critic for the New York Times. I stopped her and introduced myself and told her I really liked her work (how lame is that line?) She was really nice about it, but in the end I felt sort of like a stalker. I think I'll just go back to eavesdropping. (Photo Credit: Mark Mainz/Getty Images)
