Fashion Week Day 2: Fashion Week, the New Hannah Montana?
Sunday February 3, 2008
Here's the thing: I love my kids and try to expose them to all sorts of ideas, places and people. Fashion Week is not one of them. Unfortunately, I am just about alone in my thoughts that Fashion Week is the last place you would bring a child. Yesterday, a nice couple in front of me said they "got" (bought? stole? begged for?) tickets for their 11-year-old daughter "because she just really loved fashion."I've seen tween-kids on the front rows, running hand-in-hand through the crowds, just about everywhere. It goes way beyond the toddler/fashion accessory that we've seen in the past: it's an invasion of tweenagers at Bryant Park. Shouldn't they be at a Hannah Montana concert somewhere (ironically, that's sold out, yet these kiddies still manage to wrangle FW invites).
While the crowd is getting increasingly underaged, some of the clothes still (thankfully) have generation-spanning appeal, like the cute preppy looks from Lacoste (who doesn't love a good toggle coat or spunky knits for fall?)
Sass & Bide, on the other hand, was decidely grown up, albeit in a sexy, edgy way, even featuring the funky one-sided puff/ruffle accent piece we've been seeing everywhere. (Photo Credit: Mark Mainz/Getty Images)
