Fashion Weeek, Day Three: Redneck to Runway
Saturday September 8, 2007
"You've got to be the only person at Fashion Week who has a tractor," my colleague said. Hmmm....true. But I'm probably also the only person in my neck of the woods who plops a this-season Marc Jacobs bag on the front seat of her heavy-duty, dually wheeled, horse trailer-pulling pickup truck. Do you know anyone who fits neatly into just one lifestyle category? I certainly don't. In today's wired-in world there are so many of us who have flexibility about where we choose to live and play, while still staying plugged into work through technology and travel.
One of the reasons I think jeans have been so successful the past few years is because they were universal. Understandable. And depending on what you put with them they could go anywhere from a rodeo to a fashion show. But now fashion has swung to the "total dressing" idea of wearing matched suits, gloves, hats, etc. It's all quite lovely, but who is going to wear it? It just seems like an outdated idea (much like the "ladies who lunch") that doesn't do justice to the way we modern women live.
A great dress, however, always works for weddings, parties and other special occasions like this black and white striped number from Tracy Reese. (Photo Credit: Mark Mainz/Getty Images)
