Day Five: Fashion Week

Wednesday February 8, 2006
Remember how Lynette (Felicity Huffman) on "Desperate Housewives" returned to the workforce and, caring desperately about how she looked, plunked down big bucks for a designer suit? Many of the looks coming down the runway this week echoed just that sentiment: shirtdresses, pantsuits, suits and blouses for the working woman who wants some style along with her professional image. In the hands of Bill Blass designer Michael Vollbracht, the career dress (see photo, left)looks both powerful (red with tall black boots) and feminine (thanks to waist accented by a big black belt). For chic French designer Monique Lhuillier, often known for her red carpet and wedding dresses, daytime dressing means boxy-cut cropped jackets, knee-length skirts and fur (see photo, right).
